HYBE and BTS are under scrutiny by the public because of malicious actions during “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life.” The idols are facing several accusations regarding extortions over the marketing practices associated with their music catalog. This was enough for the K-Netizens to ask for HYBE and other major idol groups to be investigated.
In 2017, the Seoul Central District Court uncovered evidence of illegal marketing, during a case where an individual threatened to expose these practices unless paid. Through these threats, the individual managed to extort approximately $41,400.
However, the individual’s criminal actions of extorting led to his conviction and a one-year prison sentence. This was just the awakening of validating the illegal marketing allegations against the company.
Ultimately, K-Netizens are questioning the integrity of marketing practices in the Kpop industry. Particularly those involving HYBE and BigHit Music because of the several proofs against their malicious actions over the years.
