On April 24th, during the Time100 summit, the successful singer and actress, Selena Gomez, talked about the unrealistic standards in the world of beauty while talking with Lucy Feldman, senior editor of TIME magazine, about the true intention of her Rare Beauty makeup line.
She said, “Personally, I felt that there’s a very unrealistic standard when it comes to the cosmetic world and it makes me a little sad for my generation“. Additionally, she explained that there is no specific pattern to follow and that the most important thing is to be yourself: “I wanted it to feel good when they’re using my products“.
Selena Gomez also assured that putting on makeup should not be a frustrating process, she even revealed; “I don’t know how to do makeup and I have a makeup line“, she continued, “So I genuinely just wanted to make makeup that was fun for people. I don’t believe in having to look a certain way“.
The actress emphasized that her mission with Rare Beauty is to make people feel good using the product: “All of our products are named based on uplifting things, from our Find Comfort line to anything that comes to mind, body and soul, we try to be very conscious of even naming the products to be reminders of joy or just finding ourselves“.
