In an interview for The Independent, the French actress and director Maïwenn revealed that she and her team had a difficult time working with Johnny Depp on his most recent project, ‘Jeanne du Barry’, a period drama in which Depp played the title character, King Louis XV.
Maïwenn spoke frankly about her personal experience working with the renowned actor who played Willie Wonka in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘, and expressed her dissatisfaction by labeling him as unprofessional, disrespectful, and difficult, as he has a strong personality.
Initially, she said, “I have to be honest. It’s difficult to shoot with him” and later revealed the reasons: “All the crew were scared because he has a different kind of humor, and we didn’t know if he was going to be on time or if he was going to be OK to say his lines“.
Depp has repeatedly proven himself to be an actor with a talent superior to many, yet he has a reputation for being unstable and unpredictable; even the director confessed, “Johnny, for me, is a huge genius, but he’s in another world. I cannot communicate with him“.
