Queen Camilla has stepped into a new role as the appointed Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Lancers, a title previously held by the late Queen Elizabeth. This military role is especially meaningful for the Queen consort, as her dad, Major Bruce Shand, was a decorated officer in the 12th Lancers for his bravery.
It all happened during her visit to the Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, where Camilla engaged with the history and future of the regiment. As her visit progressed, she was given a silver model of a lancer on horseback. Then, she reflected on her new role, saying that:
“I know wherever my father is, he’d be so pleased I’ve got this role.”
In addition, the Queen dressed for the occasion with a navy coat dress that had a military flair. Her accessories included a bright red mandarin collar and chain mail accents, completed with a regimental brooch red beret.
Her visit was packed with both ceremonial and personal activities, including a speech emphasizing the familial spirit of the Lancers. This moment reinforced her ties to her family’s military legacy and proved her dedication to her new role.
