BTS takes the crown as the top-selling artist of Japan’s Reiwa era

Okay, ARMY, time to wave your lightsticks! BTS have achieved a groundbreaking milestone after becoming the top-selling artists of Japan’s Reiwa era, according to info by Oricon Reiwa Era Rankings. The good news were shared by Big Hit Music today, announcing that BTS is the first foreign to take the top spot in the sales category since the start of the Reiwa era.

In case you didn’t know, the Reiwa era is Japan’s current era and it began on May 1st, 2019, with the abdication of Emperor Akihito. As of now, this era’s rankings are based on total sales from May 2019 to January 2024, and they have BTS as the leading name at the top. These numbers include singles, albums, music DVDs, Blu-rays, digital downloads, and streaming, which BTS has literally smashed with a whopping 311 million sales.

The cherry on the cake is their hits album “BTS, THE BEST,” which has sold over 1.05 million copies. This marks the first time a foreign artist hits the million-seller mark in Japan during the Reiwa era.  The result? A testament of BTS’ star power in Japan, as they even sell their music during their military service.

That’s how you slay the Japanese rankings in style!
