King Charles III’s ascension to the throne on May 5, 2023, at Westminster Abbey brought mixed feelings to the table. Particularly from Down Under, who were in complete disbelief the first couple of weeks after Queen Elizabeth II’s decease. However, the King has earned New Zealand’s hearts, and he is even set to appear in the country’s new coins.
This news is just great for coin collectors and enthusiasts, despite them having to wait a couple of years before getting the new King Charles III’s coins in their hands. The new design shows the King’s face left, in keeping with conventions that each new sovereign changes directions.
The Reserve Bank expects the 10-cent coins to be minted in 2025 through 2027. The Money and Cash Director, Ian Woolford, explained his decision regarding the circulation of the new coins. He said they still have a lot of coins with the Queen’s effigy on hand, and they don’t want to destroy all these good coins, so it’s going to take a little more time.
Fortunately, King Charles III is being well-received in New Zealand despite the mishaps along the way. The king is allegedly scheduling a royal tour Down Under to connect even more with the citizens in the country. The king’s strategy to earn people’s hearts worked perfectly.
