The British royal family has been a trending topic on social media for quite some time now, mostly due to Kate Middleton and her three most recent controversies: her disappearance from public eye on late December of last year, her ongoing controversy with Prince William’s alleged mistress and her ‘Fake Middleton’ family photo that’s been flagged for AI usage, overediting and marked the Kensington Palace as an unreliable source of photos. The poor management of the Kensington Palace in light of all these controversies has led people to think: are the royals even useful anymore?
The British royal family has been a source of controversies and gossip for far too long, with the peak of their relevancy being the addition of princess Diana to the rooster. Since, their highest point has been the ‘Megxit’, when the prince Harry, along with his wife Meghan Markle, decided to step down as senior royal family members and abandoned their duties. All of those controversies were poorly managed, and they ruined the Crown’s public perception, which is, as of today, unfavorable. If they can’t even manage their own public matters and effectively solve their mishaps, how are they contributing to the British society?
Now, the Kate Middleton back-to-back controversies have people wondering if the royals, who once were a great figure that contributed to the diplomacy, have become obsolete with democracy and modern politics, and are now sticking to feeding and poorly managing controversies to stay relevant. People on social media have started to point out their uselessness when it came to clarifying the prince William cheating allegations, their actions led people to think that William did in fact cheat, and when it came to handling Kate’s alleged disappearance due to a surgical intervention, their absence has created a million theories online that range between her cutting her bangs and waiting for them to get back, to getting divorced with William.
Their last effort to clear out a controversy was Kate Middleton’s infamous family photo to commemorate mother’s day. The photo, posted to multiple of the royal family social media accounts, was accused of overediting and AI usage by internet users, to clear out the internet frenzy, they basically made Kate admit that she had edited the photo herself, which was just perceived as ‘throwing Kate under the bus’, and created even more theories: that she’s died and they created the photo with an IA, that she’s been replaced with a clone and that she stepped down as a senior royal member, and finally led to multiple worldwide photo agencies to remove the Kensington Palace as a reliable photo source. They definitely don’t know how to handle any situation that they find themselves in.
What do you think? Are they actually useful or just relevant for the wrong reasons?
