SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups has been exempted from mandatory military service

SEVENTEEN had one of the best years in their music career in 2023 after they released the “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN,” and embarked on a new show, called “NANA Tour with SEVENTEEN.” However, not every member of the group could enjoy this amazing rollout, including S.Coups, who had a knee injury.

Although S.Coups had to postpone all of his solo and group activities, he surprised his fans, better known as Carat, with an important announcement along with PLEDIS Entertainment. Previously, it was reported the idol was to rejoin the boyband after he successfully recovered from his injury.

On March 1, PLEDIS Entertainment announced that S.Coups ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee joint, and he underwent a major surgery, which was classified as Grade 5. This announcement sparked controversy among the K-Netizens because of the classification, fortunately, PLEDIS cleared the air and brought up the idol’s military status. Here’s what the company said:

“South Korea’s conscription system says that men in Grade 5 are exempt from mandatory military service during peacetime. In the case of a war, they are required to perform labor in support of the military.”

Now that SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups is exempt from his mandatory military service, the announcement filled Carats with joy. In addition, the music agency also stated SEVENTEEN is going to make their comeback at a later date, including S.Coups’ reintegration this month.
