K-Pop triumphed in the music of 2023

Undoubtedly one of the bands that have attracted the most attention is Stray Kids, and the boys have shown since their launch that they are extremely talented and versatile and have proven it by keeping their music in the biggest charts in the world. K-pop is here to stay and has proven it, we can’t forget the great impact that bands like BTS, Super Junior, Twice or the beautiful girls of Blackpink have had.

K-pop accounted for 40% of the top-selling charts in 2023, with bands like Stray Kids and Seventeen responsible for millions of plays worldwide. The K-pop music phenomenon began 12 years ago when Psy’s “Gangnam Style” hit the global charts, and BTS was the band that cemented the genre’s success, becoming one of the most famous bands today. It was among the 25 most famous people on the internet in 2017 and among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.

BTS and Blackpink do not appear on the best-selling list due to breaks for mandatory military service and contract negotiations, respectively. K-pop’s success is attributed to companies like YG and Big Hit, which put their artists through rigorous auditions and training. While intensive training is a key part, groups such as Stray Kids and Seventeen stand out for their innovation and involvement in the production of their music. Other groups such as Tomorrow X Together and NewJeans have also had great success, driving CD sales despite the streaming era. With BTS and Blackpink preparing to make a comeback in 2024, the global domination of K-pop is expected to continue to grow.”
