Taylor Swift‘s lawyers are threatening legal action against a college student who runs social media accounts to track the movements of her private planes and the amount of CO2 they produce.
Jack Sweeney, a junior at the University of Central Florida, has managed several accounts that track the flight paths of planes and helicopters owned by celebrities, billionaires, politicians and other public figures.
His accounts use publicly available data and also share estimates of their planetary warning emissions, and this isn’t the first time he’s been in the celebrity spotlight, as the college student first confronted Elon Musk in 2022 for sharing the details of his plane.
Meanwhile, the “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT” singer’s lawyers in Washington said the superstar would have no choice but to pursue any and all legal remedies if he did not stop his “stalking and harassing behavior.”
Her team also made it clear that the college student’s online behavior was putting her safety and well-being at risk and that the fact that her private jet was being tracked has caused her to feel fear, as well as emotional and physical distress.
Her lawyers’ letter states that “there is no legitimate interest or public need for this information other than to stalk, harass and exert dominance and control.” For his part, the young man believes the letter is an attempt to scare him into not sharing public data.
While many have called on the star to cut back on private travel to reduce her carbon emissions, the world star is unlikely to switch to commercial flights due to safety fears; many speculate that she will use charter planes instead.
