At the beginning of the year comes one of the most important film festivals in the world, because from there, you see the new films that are in contention to be awarded next year and one of those films could be in a festival that is happening right now, the Sundance International Film Festival.
Here are some of the most outstanding films at Sundance 2024.
Every year, many films that will be awarded have a festival route, which means that they will be exposed to a specialized critics to see if it then goes to the commercial turn and from there to be awarded, making the film industry most interesting and these are some films that have stood out during the festival.
The American Society of Magical Negroes.
Kobi Libii’s racial imagery comedy is as witty and outrageous as “American Fiction,” only this one follows through with outrageousness. Aren (Justice Smith), a socially awkward aspiring sculptor, is recruited by the American Society of Magical Negroes, an occult organization of blacks who become saintly defenders and homilies for whites.
Black Box Diaries
Amidst the flood of films about women’s rights and men’s abuses of power that have emerged in the wake of #MeToo, we have yet to see any like this heart-pounding, procedural documentary. Shiori Ito’s directorial debut identifies a world of systemic iniquities through the prism of a single, long-wrought sexual assault case, and crucially, the director’s own.
A real pain
Jesse Eisenberg wrote and directed this poignant comedy about cousins who reunite on a trip to Poland to visit the house their recently deceased grandmother had abandoned decades earlier.
