Selena Gomez spoke openly about her appearance while reflecting on the changes in her body over the years. In an Instagram story, the actress and singer showed a comparative of her body in two images a few years apart.
“Today I realized that I will never look like this again…“, she wrote next to a photo of her in a bikini taken in 2013, when she was 21 years old. The now 31-year-old entertainer shared a second image from her getaway to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, last year.
The photo shows the Only Murders in the Building actress wearing a high-waisted bikini with a white top. “I’m not perfect, but I’m proud of who I am…. Sometimes I forget that it’s okay to be me,” she wrote about the second image.
In October last year, Selena Gomez spoke about the body shaming that many women suffer from and how difficult it is to accept her body taking into account the current beauty standards. The artist recalled feeling that she no longer “had the body of a teenager” during a photoshoot, which ultimately left her self-conscious.
“None of the designs fit and that made me cringe,” she said in an interview with Fast Company magazine. “How unrealistic is it to expect a normal woman’s body not to change, though?” Following her diagnosis with lupus, the performer underwent a kidney transplant and chemotherapy.
A few months later, Selena Gomez was photographed in a bikini during a getaway to Australia, where they showed off her surgery scars to the world. Things took a turn for the worse in 2018 when the Lose You To Love Me singer entered a treatment center where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“I went through a really rough season,” she recalled. “It was my ups and downs, and I didn’t know what to do, so I couldn’t control it. I would cancel things. It was just a tormented feeling,” the U.S. artist concluded.
