In a social media post, Selena Gomez and David Henrie confirmed that there is a sequel of the beloved Wizards of Waverly Place series in the works, with both of them returning to their original roles as Alex and Justin Russo. The series will mark a short visit for Selena Gomez to Disney, the company that led her to stardom more than 15 years ago.
The ‘Calm Down’ singer took to Instagram to post a picture of herself with Henrie in the set of the series in 2011 and captioned it with a simple ‘We’re back’. Henrie also posted on social media a picture of a document titled ‘Wizards – Pilot’.
According to Deadline magazine, the series will focus on David Henrie’s character, Justin Russo, and his life after losing the magic battle to the protagonist, Alex, played by Selena Gomez, in the fourth and last season. Wizards of Waverly Place had been rumored to get a sequel multiple times, though there was never any confirmation, until now.
The cast for the sequel is not confirmed, except for David Henrie and Selena Gomez reprising their roles. Selena, however, will only participate in the pilot, and apparently has no intention to partake in the series as a recurrent character, despite playing the protagonist in the original series that aired between 2008 and 2012.
