IVE’s Wonyoung made almost every headline on October 23, because her legal team and Wonyoung herself filed a lawsuit against Former YouTuber Sojang. The lawsuit encapsulates charges against malicious comments, misleading information, and slurs against the idol. Finally, the justice ruled in favor of Wonyoung.
The idol’s lawyer submitted evidence proving the videos posted by Sojang on their YouTube channel were categorically false. The lawyer also expressed this was an illegal activity, and it also amounts to defamation and insult criminally.
On December 2023, the 210th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Park Jiwon) ruled in favor of Wonyoung and Starship Entertainment against Park, widely known as Sojang. The court ordered that $74,532.87 must be paid, with an annual rate of 12% until the day it is fully repaid.
Undoubtedly, this was a major win for IVE’s Wonyoung after months of being disrespected online. Park deleted their YouTube account along with an apology. This marks one of the first warnings by Starship Entertainment that YouTubers who use their platforms to spread false information cannot hide anymore overseas to avoid the law.
