Mean Girls is making people walk out of the theater

Nobody goes to the movies with the intention of not having a good time, and there are people who apparently would not have been very happy with the new blockbuster, Mean Girls, and it seems that the film made some people leave the theater to stop watching the movie.

Mean Girls is making people walk out of the theater.

An exit poll conducted by Paramount details the movie’s audience for Variety. One notable statistic is that 76% of the audience was female and 60% was under 25 years old. Therefore, many of the young people who went to see the film were not even born when the original was released. However, what is most striking is that, according to the study, only 75% of moviegoers knew it was a musical and 16% even left the theater when they learned about the genre.

According to studio estimates released Sunday, the Paramount film, adapted from the Broadway musical and Tina Fey’s 2004 film, grossed $28 million in theaters in the first three days. That represents a significant increase over the $24.4 million the first film earned at the time of its release, not accounting for inflation.

While Mean Girls’ box office success in first place this week doesn’t mean that people are no longer seeing Wonka; instead, the Timothée Chalamet film continues to be very well received by audiences. Wonka took third place this week with $8 million dollars, much less than the box office of Mean Girls; however, the film generated $500 million dollars in total.

No doubt everything Paramount has done has paid off, as the film is being well received without upsetting the 2004 original. What do you think about it? Did you like the new Mean Girls movie?
