Park Seo Joon responds to accusations of insulting Korean independence fighters in ‘Gyeonseong Creature’

On January 11th, the renowned actor Park Seo Joon had an interview with the media outlet OSEN, where he responded to strong accusations of insulting Korean independence fighters in ‘Gyeonseong Creature‘.

After the release of the first season of the series on the Netflix platform on December 22nd, many viewers discussed and criticized the representation of Korean independence fighters, as some of them betrayed the protagonists, which was seen as an insult toward them.

Given this controversy, Park Seo Joon decided to explain his character intentions: “He may have tried to reject (the independence movement) at first, but he always came through for them in the end“. He also expressed his position on the matter and his thoughts:

“I never tried to insult the independence fighters while filming, but seeing these reactions, I realized it might be portrayed that way. I don’t believe that the K-Drama insults the independence fighters. They are the reason why I am alive today”.

On the other hand, after the first season of the series became an international success on the streaming service, the second installment was announced, which will take place in the current Seoul and will be released sometime in 2024.
