The new Mean Girls movie is opening and there’s a lot to say about it, first, it’s lovely that there’s a familiar team behind the film, two, the fact that it’s not a remake and it’s a Broadway adaptation gives it something refreshing, but enough to compete with the original?
Mean Girls has already premiered and this is what the critics think of it
Apparently, even Lindsay Lohan herself showed approval for this new version of the movie, as she was seen parading around the red carpet in an incredible way. So far the reactions to the movie have been positive and the comments on networks say that it does not try to be better than the original, but that it is a good, entertaining movie.
If we go to a website like Rotten Tomatoes we will be able to start reading reviews from movie specialists, but it won’t be public until the film is officially on its commercial route. Mean Girls is a project that has been liking and to see that Broadway is getting further than we expect is also very pleasing.
Another curious fact about the film is that the actress playing Regina George is an actress named Reneé Rapp, who at one point played Regina for Broadway, so it would seem that the role fits her perfectly.
The movie follows the script we all know, a young girl from Africa who arrives at a high school in North America, where she must adapt in the highschool which is ruled by plastics. After befriending two young ¨weirdos¨, they devise a plan to dethrone Regina.
Buzzfeed’s Nora Dominick said, “Reneé Rapp singing ‘World Burn’ got rapturous applause at my screening of Mean Girls (and her name in the credits at the end legitimately deserved applause). I feel it’s the perfect provocation I can give.”
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff tells of being “totally thrilled with the new Mean Girls movie. From the perspective of someone who loves the 2004 film, but never had the opportunity to see the Broadway show, the music has blown me away. Such memorable songs and so well woven into the story. The film feels charmingly familiar, but it’s also alive in a fun and fresh way.”
