When Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, took the stage to accept the Chairman Award at the Palm Springs Film Awards, Eilish spoke candidly about her experience with mental health and how the film helped her through a particularly difficult time.

Recently the young Grammy Award winner talked about a complicated time in her life, one where she was close to the Barbie movie project and something happened that she will always remember.

“Whatever recognition this song gets I want to dedicate it to anyone experiencing hopelessness and the sense of existential dread and feeling like, ‘What’s the point and why am I here and what am I doing this for?” said Eilish. “I think we all feel that way from time to time. If someone like me, with the amount of privilege I have and the amazing things I can do and be, and how I haven’t really wanted to be here – I’m sorry, it’s a little dark, damn it – but I’ve spent a lot of time feeling that way, and I just want to say to anyone who feels that way, be patient with yourself and know that, in my opinion, it’s all worth it, and I think it’s good to be alive now.”
