The Queen Letizia and the divorce agreement she signed with King Felipe VI

Among the agreements that Queen Letizia has already made with King Felipe VI, the divorce agreement they both signed is the talk of the town once again, resurfacing amid the scandal generated by rumors of infidelity on her part.

Jaime del Burgo, Letizia’s ex-brother-in-law, has spread the rumor about the infidelity that led to further speculation about a possible divorce between the kings of Spain.

The couple has gone through several crises, and remained together through it all, however, just in case, before getting married, they signed a divorce agreement stipulating several rules to be followed in case of separation.

Before saying “I do,” Letizia and Felipe agreed on specific clauses outlining the procedure to follow in the event of a potential marital crisis. In the case of a divorce, Letizia secured her future by expressing her intention to resume her career as a journalist, a job she left behind to assume the title of Princess of Asturias, and later, the title of queen. The queen’s former lawyer, David Rocasolano, made this agreement public, an extensive 50-page document that clearly outlines the other benefits the now monarch would receive.

Letizia would also receive a monthly economic allowance for life from the General State Budgets, as the mother of the future Head of State, the current Princess, Leonor. But that’s not all; she would also have access to two official residences, one for the summer season and another for winter, along with the necessary service personnel and all expenses included.

The current rumors, though quite strong, do not seem to guarantee a separation between the kings of Spain, as there is no way to confirm whether Letizia was or wasn’t unfaithful in the past.
