Noah Schnapp rose to fame for his role as Will Byers in the hit series Stranger Things, produced by Netflix in 2016. Playing the protagonist granted him a huge popularity, proven by the amount of support he received when he came out of the closet as homosexual in the first days of January of this year.
The Stranger Things actor’s popularity faded rather quickly when a video of himself repeatedly singing the N word became viral, resulting in a wave of criticism towards the actor. That scandal was followed by a second one caused by his controversial opinions regarding the Israel – Palestine conflict. He himself is a jew descent, so it was no surprise to the public when he sided with Israel, however, a video of him joyfully playing with two tags that read ‘Zionism is sexy’ and ‘Hamas is Isis’ were too much for the public, so they proceeded to start a cancelling campaign against him.
His once favorable public image is now completely torn with fans of the Stranger Things saga asking for him to be removed from the production. It’s so bad, that someone went as far as falsely reporting that the actor had been hospitalized after falling off a bike rack and landing on his neck. The news quickly spread in social media, with multiple people happily sharing the news with comments such as ‘Finally’, ‘Is the bike okay?’, and alike.
Shortly after, the news were declared fake, the actor is fine and such accident never took place. After finding out, people started asking for him to be removed from the series anyway.
What do you think? Is it okay to mock someone’s death, even if it’s fake?
