Doja Cat has been one of the top artists in the music game this year. Despite all controversies, (including satanism rumors, insulting fans, and physical appearance changes) the rapper and singer managed to dominate the charts with her album “Scarlet,” and especially with her smash hit, “Paint the Town Red.”
But, did you know Doja Cat didn’t even plan to include this jam on her album? Yes, you read that right! The hitmaker recently confirmed that this song was not supposed to make the cut for her latest project. Need proof? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with all these Doja Cat deets.
The rapper recently sat down with Apple Music‘s Ebro in an interview that brought Doja’s most vulnerable side to light. During their chat, she touched upon different topics, including her experience becoming famous, building her fandom, and creating new music, visuals, and touring.
Now, this when the interview gets juicy, when asked about the creative process of “Paint the Town Red,” she confessed her team pushed her to include it on the “Scarlet” album, but that wasn’t the original plan. Still, even Doja herself knew the track was hit material, and ended up having it on the final tracklist. Here’s what she said:
“‘Paint The Town Red’ reminded me of Target or, like, Macy’s… I don’t know why. It just kind of is that. And I know it starts with a curse word, it’s a little bit edgy in that sense… But that song just had a very pants-up-high vibe. I think, strategically… it was a good addition to the album… I did [expect it to be popular]. That was what I was kind of running from a little bit.”
