A few months ago something very interesting happened in the film industry, and is that two films that promise to be a success on screen premiered and with that, all the people went crazy because the world would be divided between two and in a very marked way, since one of the films in question was neither more nor less than Barbie.
I think by now we all know the impact the Barbie movie had, and that is that not just anyone is able to fill the world with pink as Barbie did, but it was not so easy, since it was released on the same day as another extremely strong movie called Oppenheimer, the future of the release was in doubt.
Margot Robbie refused to change Barbie’s release date.
Oppenheimer and Barbie opened on the same day and with that they made double features fashionable, as people wanted to see both films and the result was wonderful, because, although Barbie broke all the box office for the year, Oppenheimer’s performance was not bad at all.
Margot Robbie recalls, “One of your producers, Chuck Roven, called me, because we worked together on some other projects,” “And he was like, ‘I think you guys should move your date.’ And I was like, ‘We’re not moving our date. If you’re scared to be up against us, then you move your date.’ And he’s like, ‘We’re not moving our date. I just think it’d be better for you to move.’ And I was like, ‘We’re not moving!'”
Even though the famous actress didn’t agree to the movie moving, it resulted in a very interesting marketing strategy, since it created something that in the internet world was called Barbenheimer, and with that, the union of two of the most desired movies of this year.
What do you think about it? Do you think it was a good idea for the movies to be released on the same day?
