Singer Shakira will pay a millionaire fine to avoid going to prison

This November 20, 2023, the Colombian singer Shakira appeared before the Barcelona hearing to accept the charges of tax fraud during the period 2012-2014. Thanks to her confession, she was able to reach an agreement indicating that she will pay a million-dollar fine to not go to prison, and they will put an end to this process.

She will have to pay a total amount of 432 thousand euros (470 thousand dollars) to avoid being sent to prison and will also have to pay a fine of 7.3 million euros (7.8 million dollars), given this situation the singer shared a statement to explain the reasons that led her to make the decision to plead guilty.

“I felt ready to face a trial and defend my innocence and my lawyers were convinced that we would have a winning trial, however I have to choose my battles and the most important one for me now is to do everything so that my children live a full life“.

Shakira considers that accepting the improved agreement that changed 8 years in prison for 36 months and with the option of being replaced for a large amount of money and would put an end to this extremely long process was a good decision, since she will be able to enjoy her children and her career freely.
