It is no secret, aespa recently came back with fresh new music and a dazzling new single titled “Drama.” The lyrics of the song talk about being confident, fierce, and of course, dramatic, but this wasn’t the starting point of this jam. According to South Korean media, the track initially had different lyrics and a completely different vibe, all courtesy of SM Entertainment executive Lee Soo-man.
The “Drama” we know today, is a new version of a song Lee Soo-man wanted to be filled with nature references. For example, he included lyrics like “tree planting,” “sustainability, “wind,” “sunlight,” and “water.” While he was loving the idea, the aespa girls and SM Entertainment’s team weren’t vibing too much with the concept.
Why, you might ask? Well, the song was supposed to be a part of aespa’s previous mini-album, “MY WORLD,” back in May. But plot twist! The release of this song was canceled, and it wasn’t included on their EP. Later down the line, “Drama” was re-written, and it had a major makeover!
Is this a surprise? Not at all! Lee Soo-man is an advocate for environmental activities, focusing on tree planting as his main initiative. He’s even collaborated with Koreatown Youth & Community Center to plant about 1,000 street trees in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for him, it looks like his decision to move those vibes into Kpop music didn’t work out at all.
So, what do you think, can you imagine “Drama” talking about some eco-friendly stuff? We would love the idea of an environmental aespa song, but it should be a separate single made for charity.
