The Marvels was the last chip Marvel had to take out to become known as another box office failure, and the fact is that when the passion is lost, the generic comes back and people are generic, so they look for something extraordinary to get excited. The Marvels doesn’t achieve it and it broke records, the kind that shouldn’t be broken because they mean something bad.
The Marvels is a total failure and Marvel disappoints again.
Even though the critics didn’t hate it as aggressively as other superhero movies, The Marvels has the worst premiere and it was really risky to release a movie with Captain Marvel when it is known that Brie Larsen is not the audience’s favorite actress and it shows her null knowledge of the modern audience and the quality of the work valued that the box office shows her regression.
The Nia DaCosta-directed superhero flick has grossed $21.3 million in the U.S., including $6.6 million in Thursday preview screenings, Luiz Fernando tells us on Twitter. The film became the film that had the worst opening day in U.S. theaters, second only to The Incredible Hulk.
Recall that The Marvels was one of the most expensive superhero movie productions in history, with an investment of $273.8 million that did not go entirely to Disney and Marvel Studios.
