The actor was found lifeless in the jacuzzi of his home in Los Angeles, the first reports indicated he died by an apparent drowning on Saturday, October 28. A couple of hours later, Matthew’s family made an exclusive statement regarding the tragic death to PEOPLE.

In 2018, he was hospitalized because of a colon burst due to the consequences of opioid use, and the beloved actor stated his parents stayed at the edge of his bed during his recovery at the hospital.
