The actor was found lifeless in the jacuzzi of his home in Los Angeles, the first reports indicated he died by an apparent drowning on Saturday, October 28. A couple of hours later, Matthew’s family made an exclusive statement regarding the tragic death to PEOPLE.
The family expressed they are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a son and a brother, they emphasized he brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. The family also stated they appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love from the support during hard times.
Perry’s family was always been by his side, his parents supported him through his struggle with addiction. In 2018, he was hospitalized because of a colon burst due to the consequences of opioid use, and the beloved actor stated his parents stayed at the edge of his bed during his recovery at the hospital.
