Spanish former soccer star, Gerard Piqué, has recently been mostly quiet since his divorce from Colombian hitmaker, Shakira. After their split, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer has been the most vocal about the issues that led up to their separation, especially in her songs. But now, the Spanish footballer has broken the silence, and he really doesn’t have much to say…
Now, in case you need some context: the Piqué-Shakira split saga has been the hot gossip for over a year. Word on the street (and the Internet) says Gerard left the Colombian queen (who is currently 46 years old) for young journalism student, Clara Chía Martí (who’s in her early twenties). After the relationship was confirmed, there have been rumors about a potential wedding between Clara and Gerard, but there hasn’t been confirmation so far.
The ex-Barcelona FC player has been a little elusive and has avoided giving details about the stormy split from Shakira or about commenting on the custody agreement that allows the kids he had with her estranged wife to live in Miami. Also, he’s been pretty unbothered and gave his best poker face when it came to the attacks from Shakira’s fan base.
But wait no more! He’s finally given us a tidbit on why he’s been so silent. Recently, Gerard sat down in an interview at a Spanish show called “Joaquín, el Novato.” The host, who was a former soccer star as well, cut to the chase and asked his guest about the “Whenever Wherever” singer. Here’s what they said, translated from Spanish:
“Before we wrap up, let me ask you a question, between the both of us. Every story has two versions, so why haven’t you said yours yet?” The host asked, waiting for that tea to be spilled.
Here’s what Piqué had to say, in a chilly response (maybe he was pretending, though): “I don’t think so, it’s not worth it, I don’t care.” He replied, saying he was not really feeling it when it came to Shakira. As a response, Joaquín told him to call him if he changed his mind – that’s right, this host is thirsty for that flipping hot divorce tea!
And there we have it! Gerard Piqué has been pretty clear about not wanting anything to do with his divorce. He doesn’t care, he’s not interested, and he won’t say anything related to that (at least for now, wait for the memoir book).
