Before the premiere of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘, rumors arose about the characters that would appear in this installment. Initially, there was talk of the participation of the previous interpreters of the superhero, as well as the theory that their partners would also be present.
Ambitious viewers created the theory that it would be possible to see Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane, Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, and all three live-action versions of Spider-Man together. However, although Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire appeared in this film, their romantic interests did not participate.
As revealed in the new MCU book that contains more detailed information about certain things in this franchise, Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone were in the original script for this film; however, in the end, it was not possible to include them since the story was overloaded with characters.
The villains of previous versions had a story and a narrative function, as did the other versions of Peter Parker, as well as Tom Holland’s MJ, who was an important part of the film’s plot. For this reason, they decided to eliminate the characters that Dunst and Stone would play from the script.
Although these actresses were part of the initial script, they were removed from the script at an early stage, so none of them were even present on the set where this installment would be filmed, leaving Zendaya’s MJ and Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May as the only female characters with relevance.
It's confirmed that several notable names were a part of earlier drafts for No Way Home. Sommers and McKenna, at various points, wrote versions that incorporated Emma Stone, Kirsten Dunst & Sally Field but ultimately cut them all when they decided that the story was overstuffed🫠 pic.twitter.com/RP7mPLri9F
