Candyman: The horror movies you can’t miss this Halloween

Urban legends usually take on great importance in popular culture, as they become more and more real tales that people claim have happened to them, and it is these same legends that make horror movies that will steal your sleep.

Based as a remake on a movie that had already been a hit, this story is about a returning urban legend that is sure to give you the biggest nightmares, as its storytelling is completely unique.

It is Candyman, a horror movie that has become a trend, to such a degree that there is a recent version that has also stolen people’s dreams due to the theme and rawness of its scenes that make us jump out of our seats more than once.

At the University of Chicago, student Helen Lyle investigates the legend surrounding Candyman, a ghost with a hook instead of a hand that appears every time his name is pronounced five times in front of a mirror. As part of Helen’s research, a professor explains the historical basis of the legend and the superstitions surrounding it: Candyman is apparently the vengeful spirit of a slave who was mutilated by a crazed mob that accused him of raping a white woman. When Helen decides to repeat Candyman’s name five times, she sets in motion a series of inevitable supernatural events, culminating in gruesome killings in which she herself is the one holding the murder weapon.

A new Candyman movie arrived in the year 2022, showing us an alternate history of the horror character we already knew but in a more modern but equally terrifying society.

Since time immemorial, residential projects in Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood have been threatened by the story of a supposed serial killer with a hook for a hand who is easily summoned by repeating his name five times in front of a mirror. Today, a decade after the last Cabrini tower was demolished, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen) and his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris), move into a luxury apartment in a neighborhood now unrecognizable, filled with millennials and people who are generally unaware of his dark past.

So now you have 2 movies to watch in a horror marathon.
