The most recent Marvel Cinematic Universe moves have Tom Holland in the middle. Unsurprisingly, the choices the studio has made have fans all over the globe buzzing with speculations, and this time we got a real-jaw dropper: British heartthrob Tom Holland will be passing the “Spider-Man” role in Marvel’s Phase 5 series.
But, is it really goodbye time for Tom Holland as Spider-Man? Everything seems to be pointing out to the end direction for the actor. The reason is that Marvel has spun a new web for the spider superhero in a series to premiere next year. Word on the street is that Hudson Thames, who once voiced Peter Parker in the debut season of “What If…?,” will be weaving his own webs as Spider-Man in “Freshman Year”, out on Disney+ in early 2024.
In case you’re wondering what this project is about: “Spider-Man: Freshman Year” will take us on a nostalgic ride through Peter Parker’s high school days. We know tons of fans had high hopes of Tom Holland reprising the role, but it looks like the Spidey suit will be worn by Thames.
Things are looking even more real now, as the casting names have already been registered with the U.S. Copyright Office, with Hudson Thames’ popping up as well. This means that Marvel’s Phase 5 lineup is looking solid and there might be nothing holding it back.
But don’t worry! Before you start shedding tears, this doesn’t mean our fave British boy is putting his Spider-Man suit in the closet for good. When it comes to future Marvel flicks, you actually never know.
I mean, we should definitely consider all those shelved projects that could never see the light of day due to the actors’ and writers’ strike. Now that this Hollywood drama is solved, Tom Holland kicking off a different Spider-Man production seems possible.
