Adaptations of anime and manga series are trending, and Pokémon is not the exception to the live-action fever for Japanese media. With the recent success of Netflix’s One Piece live-action, it was just a matter of time for another one to jump into home screens for fans.
This time it’s all about the new Pokémon live-action series, titled “Pokétsume: Pack Your Pocket With Adventure.” However, this new show is coming with a little twist. It turns out it is not going to be based on any of the video games or the anime series.
You read that right! We’re not going to be watching any battles, gym leaders, or fierce showdowns in the Pokémon League. Now that we got that out of the way, let’s focus on what “Pokétsume” is really about: the show will tell the story of Madoka Akagi, who is looking for a job in Tokyo.
It looks like our protagonist is gonna go through sort of an “existential crisis” that starts being solved after she gets a package with her old Game Boy from her mom. Wonder what’s in the console? Well, it’s the Pokémon Red video game, which Madoka Akagi hadn’t played since her childhood.
It seems this new live-action is targeted towards a more adult audience, rather than children or teenagers. The existential crisis phase and the Pokémon Red throwback certainly resonate with some millennials or late gen z heads who are trying to figure things out!
Now, here’s where it gets even better: Pokétsume will be hitting small screens on October 19 in Japan. The series will premiere a new episode every Friday on TV Tokyo, there’s still no confirmation on what streaming service will be having the show but our best bets are Crunchyroll and Netflix.
