One of the most popular DC villains is without a doubt the Joker. It has been more than four years since his film premiered on the big screen, being well received by fans and critics, so much so that it was awarded with the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
Joaquin Phoenix as the main role achieved an impeccable performance, “The idea was to try to discover the man first, and I think that was the most difficult part for me. Don’t think of him as the Joker we know, but as the man“, said the actor who won the Oscar as ‘Best Actor’ for this interpretation.
For his part, in this production Robert De Niro had a supporting role, playing Murray Franklin, night host, during the film we can notice who cannot have a good relationship with Joker, since in a certain way he did not respect him.
Something similar to what we saw on the big screen happened during the filming of this installment, since Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro had many problems and they did not agree, all of this was due to the fact that each one’s ways of working were completely different.
Between this diferences was when De Niro wanted to read the entire script and listen to the entire movie before recording, Phoenix insisted on being freer and being able to improvise.
“I was in a very difficult position because Joaquín told me ‘I’m not going to do a (…) reading, no way’, and Bob responded ‘I do readings before I start recording. That’s what we (actors) do’” recalled Todd Phillips, who was in charge of directing and carrying out this incredible film production.
