Taylor Swift has become a global referent when it comes down to success, her latest album, tour, and movie tour film has already broken numerous records across the globe. The American artist also gained attention because she started dating American football tight end, Travis Kelce.
Swift has been attending the Chiefs game and notoriously all cameras went down to see her reactions during the matches. In consequence, football fans complained that the league is oversaturating its coverage with Taylor Swift’s attendance.
In addition, Travis Kelce also addressed the situation and left a controversial message during his New Heights podcast: “I think they’re overdoing it a little bit, for sure.”
NFL immediately defended from the detractors by releasing a short statement to People magazine:
“The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop-cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real-time. It’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”
NFL isn’t sorry about the coverage and exposure of Taylor Swift during the matches after her attendance boosted viewership. As an example of it, the Kansas City Chiefs vs New York Jets game became the most-watched Sunday game since February’s Super Bowl. The NFL also addressed their TikTok bio: “Taylor was here”
“We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally.”
Taylor Swift became a global phenomenon that the NFL didn’t want to slip away from, so they also explained they were focusing on the game but at the same time, they wanted to bring more audience with the singer’s attendance to Travis Kelce’s matches. “The vast majority of our content has remained focused on the game, our players, and a variety of other initiatives.”
