Check out what the prison where ‘Stranger Things’ was filmed looks like

With the passage of time, old structures become pieces of history that want to be preserved and remembered, just as it has happened with castles or fortresses and old town halls, turning them into places of leisure for visitors, however among them there is a prison that has attracted a lot of attention.

This is the Lukiškės prison, in Vilnius, Lithuania, which was one of the strictest prisons on the European continent that operated from 1904 to 2019. During this time it had a multitude of prisoners from the tsarist era in its cells, Jewish concentration camp during the Nazi period, as well as the destination of political prisoners opposed to the Soviet regime.

After finishing its activity, there was a debate about the purpose of its new use, which led it to maintain its structure as a cultural center where up to 250 artists, musicians and creators have played, which has also attracted the attention of different film directors.

Due to this, these facilities have also been used as a recording set for different productions such as the successful Netflix series titled ‘Stranger Things‘ from 2016 and the HBO MAX production of the historical drama ‘Chernobyl‘ from 2019.

In addition to having been the perfect location for musical festivals, this space is also visited by many travelers to have a guided tour of all its facilities, which allows those interested to learn more about the history it has and the exact places where these series were filmed, as the cell set in the 80s for the fantasy series ‘Stranger Things’.
