In recent days, the daughter of legendary actor Robin Williams gave a strong and clear statement against the use of artificial intelligence to recreate the voices of actors who currently cannot give their consent, as is the case of her father who died in 2014.
The well-known actress Zelda Williams expressed her disagreement with these practices through a publication in her stories on her official Instagram account.
“I am not an impartial voice in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) fight against artificial intelligence“.
“I have witnessed for years how numerous people want to train these models to create or recreate actors who cannot give consent, like Dad. This is not theoretical, it is very, very real“.
In addition to supporting this fight by Hollywood artists in the recent protests, she also shared her sincere opinions about this use of the technology.
“I’ve already heard that AI is used to make its ‘voice’ say whatever people want“.
“While I personally find it disturbing, the implications go far beyond my own feelings. Living actors deserve the opportunity to create characters with their choices, to give voice to cartoons, to put their human effort and time into the pursuit of performance“.
These statements come shortly after the great film production company Disney announced the launch of a short film that would include all of its characters and bring the original voices of each of them, including Robin Williams.
However, everything seems to be a misunderstanding since the company specified that these voices of the character of the genie of the lamp, which Williams brought to life in the original ‘Aladdin‘ film, would come from unreleased recordings of this production.
