After the premiere of the fourth and final season of the successful Netflix series ‘Sex Education‘, many of its fans have wondered about the absence of the characters Ola and Lily, one of the most acclaimed couples in the series and given this, its creator has shared the reason.
According to a recent statement by the creator, Laurie Nunn, through LADbible about the closure of this story, this couple had a satisfactory closure, so it would not make sense to extend the story of the characters played by Tanya Reynolds and Patricia Allison any further in the most recent installment.
The beginning of this story is in the second season, when we see how Lily and Ola begin a beautiful friendship, and as time passes their relationship evolves into a romantic relationship. In the next installment, this couple has a strong argument since Lily believes that Ola does not love her the way she is, however they end up fixing it and becoming girlfriends again.
Given this development and ending, Nunn shares that this is the ending they deserve and that appearing in a new and final season would not be beneficial for their character development or the relationship they have, so she decided to keep that ending in his viewers’ minds.
“It feels like those storylines have come to a lovely end in season three and I felt like Lily and Ola’s characters really felt like they ended up in a happy place. Particularly because they’re a lesbian couple, I wanted them to not have any more pain or trauma, and just leave them happy together. So it felt like a very organic place to leave them“, Nunn says.
However, with so many problems in the last season of ‘Sex Education’, which arrived on the Netflix streaming platform on September 21st, this absence will not be felt, and no one would want the beautiful ending they had to be ruined.
