The One Piece live-action has become one of Netflix’s biggest smash series to date. This success has been attributed to the series being able to capture the anime and manga’s essence and successfully adapt its plot. With this, the “history of failure” over Japanese media adaptations in the Western world has been put to rest, and One Piece was the one to finally break the curse.
Upon the success of the show, social media has been abuzz during the past few weeks due to some exciting news. What’s the hype all about? Well, it looks like the Academy Award winner, Jaime Lee Curtis, might be joining the live-action adaptation of One Piece.
This comes after fans of the manga and the anime constantly flooded social media with requests for Curtis to embody one of the characters of the beloved series. Fans quickly chose the “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once” actress as the best fit for Dr.Kureha, who makes an appearance in One Piece during the later arcs.
In response, Jaime graciously accepted fans’ plans and gave a positive response to her playing Dr.Kureha. However, she has only one condition that has to be met, before she can even think of playing the character. The actress took her social media profiles to say that she would only be a part of the show when the actors and writers’ strike is over:
“Once the strike against the greed of the [AMPTP] is settled with a fair contract, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha,” she said.
Stay tuned to see if Jaime Lee Curtis finally joins the One Piece live-action cast!
