Amid the controversy for BLACKPINK’s contract renewal, which has been rumored to be going through different negotiations, it has also been reported that the South Korean agency, YG Entertainment, has delayed the highly-anticipated debut of BABYMONSTER.
Reports stated that BABYMONSTER would debut sometime during August or September, but plans of the 7-eight piece group releasing a new song are not looking too promising. They were supposed to make their official debut with a strong hip-hop-oriented track this month, but no news have been presented so far.
The reasons for this unexpected delay have been speculated to be for two main reasons: the first one, the controversy surrounding BLACKPINK’s contract renewal. Rumors point out that while Rosé might be staying under YG Entertainment. In contrast, Lisa, Jisoo and Jennie could have been offered more favorable contracts in other companies, which would make them decline their former agency.
The second one involves BABYMONSTER member, Ahyeon, who was under fire earlier this year for utilizing the n word. In spite of not facing major backlash for this, the rookie idol has not been spotted anywhere, her final pre-debut profile was not updated, and no social media posts made by her have been done either. This has led many fans to believe that the delay could be related to member Ahyeon being removed from the group, but this has not been addressed officially.
For now, there are no actual statements coming from YG Entertainment regarding BLACKPINK’s contract renewal or BABYMONSTER’s new debut date. Recently, BLACKPINK wrapped up their “Born Pink World Tour” and BABYMONSTER pre-released “DREAM” in May.
