CJ ENM has finally unveiled details regarding the 2023 MAMA Awards (previously known as the Mnet Asian Music Awards) including its venue and dates. This legendary event, which has recognizing Kpop music since 1999, has been held in different places such as Macau, Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong. In this occasion, the ceremony will take place in Japan (for the fifth time in its history) at the Tokyo Dome, marking the first time a South Korean award show is hosted in such massive venue.
The dates have also been revealed, with the 2023 MAMA being held on November 28 and 29. In addition, this year’s theme was named “ONE I BORN.” Reportedly, this concept wants to reflect “I” and “MAMA” getting together to create endless possibilities and becoming “ONE” with positive energy.
About the new revelations regarding this award show, head of music entertainment at CJ ENM, Joon-beom Sim, expressed that:
“As MAMA Awards is a ceremony that acknowledges the most outstanding K-POP artists as chosen by global fans, it will continue to serve as a platform where countless music fans can engage and unite as one, transcending regions, backgrounds, and generations,” the executive commented on the show.
The voting will be enabled on October 19 at 6 p.m. (South Korean time). However, information to regarding performances, nominees and additional recognitions is yet to be announced, so stay tuned with us for more updates.
Still, speculations say that Kpop artists that have had accomplishments this year such as NewJeans or Stray Kids (amongst many other fantastic groups) could make an appearance at the ceremony. BTS would probably not be nominated as a group, since it has not released music this year. However, members such as Jimin, Suga, RM or Jungkook might be nominated thanks to their solo projects. Pretty similarly, BLACKPINK has only released one song this year, so they might get a nomination for it!
