Chris Evans was recently interviewed by GQ, where he expressed his opinion on Quentin Tarantino‘s harsh criticism of Marvel, the film director stated that the public really goes to movie theaters to see the characters, not the actors who give them life.
“Captain America is the star or Thor is the star“, said the filmmaker.
For 11 years Chris Evans has played Captain America and revealed that he really agrees with Tarantino’s opinion, making it clear that it is a very sensible way of seeing things and the fact that the character is above the actor who gives him life is something positive.
“That was the nice thing about working on Marvel movies. You never really had to be the center of attention, sometimes in your own movies. Quentin Tarantino said it recently and I thought, you know, he’s right. The character is the star. You are there, but you do not feel his burden“.
When the question arose about whether he would ever hold Captain America’s shield again in the future, he responded: “I will never say never, simply because it was a wonderful experience. But I also value it a lot. It’s something I’m very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it happened“.
In addition, he confirmed that his return would not be soon, since he wants to take his career a little more calmly, “I hope to act a little less in my life. I have many other interests, I do not have any Oscar and I am not grouped with other names that are at the top of the mountain by no means. But I also feel very satisfied“.
For his part, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, also let GQ know his opinion and does not seem to agree with Tarantino:
“I think it was something that Chris was saying to himself being part of the franchise, and I think it’s something that a lot of actors who play the Avengers, including Robert, would say to themselves, which was actually very helpful for the process. However, in certain cases, including Chris’s, it is not completely true“.
