In Netflix’s extent catalog, there are two captivating period series that could be the right fight for you if you liked the iconic HBO production, Game of Thrones. These shows are a great watch for lovers of historical dramas and period series.

The now iconic and beloved, Game of Thrones, made its premiere in 2011. With this, the beginning of a legendary TV franchise was marked, and the series went on to be one of the most successful and critically acclaimed shows in years to come. However, this status would start shaking in the final season, as this arc in the show was met criticisms due to a lackluster conclusion different fans disliked.

In spite of the backlash regarding the last Game of Thrones season, it is no lie that the show left a gap in the market once it ended. For that reason, viewers have been on the lookout for similar productions, and Netflix took that opportunity to cater them.

Women at War:

This series is set in France, 1914. This show tells the story of female empowerment, as it portrays women joining forces for a rebellion to establish their identity. In addition, the plot puts together the lives of four women: Marguerite, an enigmatic Parisian prostitute; Caroline, who’s leading a family factory; Agnes, the Mother Superior of a requisitioned convent; and Suzanne, a feminist nurse.

 The Law According to Lidia Poët:

In this series, another woman takes the center role. The period drama presents the life of taly’s first-ever female lawyer, who had to face numerous challenges to show her worth as a professional.

“In this gripping period drama, Lidia Poët investigates murders while fighting to practice law. Inspired by the true story of Italy’s first female lawyer,” the synopsis reads.
