Illegal copy of ‘Barbie’ movie tops box office in Russia

When Barbie’s arrival was announced, the world wasn’t ready to go all pink until it happened. Barbie became a global phenomenon that broke records and became one of the highest-grossing movies in recent years.

With the arrival of Barbie, many similar productions started to come out, including shorts, pictures or anything in entertainment that could be influenced, which many countries didn’t like.

During its time, it was news that several countries did not accept the arrival of Barbie because it did not comply with the moral regulations they established, causing the film to be canceled or censored, as has been the case in Russia. The scene in which two of Kent’s friends kiss the character played by Ryan Gosling on the cheek was censored in some theaters.

The first weekend of “Barbie” grossed around $125,000, an amount that the local press believes could be much higher due to the fact that many small cinemas and clubs have screened the film almost clandestinely.

Let us recall that Greta Gerwig’s movie was criticized by Russian deputy Maria Bútina, who allegedly was a spy hired by the United States, and called for the removal of Mattel’s Barbie doll from stores in Russia, as well as according to the Ministry of Culture, it is not advisable for Russian citizens to watch Hollywood movies.
