Shakira was the center of attention at the MTV Video Music Awards 2023 last Tuesday. The award show took place at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, United States on September 12, and it celebrated music from all across the globe, especially Shakira’s.
The singer was honored with the Video Vanguard Award, which has been given to artists for their legacy and contribution to music videos and popular culture. In addition to that, Shakira also performed a 10-minute medley of her hits that made the audience go wild, and received another award for “TQG,” her song with fellow Colombian artist Karol G.
Shakira was certainly at the forefront of the ceremony, with her name being on everybody’s mouth, including that of American comedian Tiffany Haddish. The woman has gone viral on X (formerly known as Twitter) for all the wrong reasons.
It turns out that the comedian followed and shouted Shakira’s name with the intention of getting a picture with her. The videos that had been posted across social media show Haddish photobombing the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer in different moments, but Shakira did not respond negatively to the behavior the comedian had.
However, reactions from fans have been the total opposite, with some of them expressing that Haddish harassed Shakira at the MTV Video Music Awards 2023. They quickly affirmed that she kept photobombing the artist all night long and posted memes mocking Haddish due to her conduct.
Amid of the backlash, the woman took her own X profile to respond to these allegations regarding her actions in the award show. She did not seem to be willing to apologize, but rather came across as defensive, saying on Friday:
This soooooo interesting to me. If you feel like I did to much All of y’all better be buying @shakira new album!
This experience has Aloud me to realize how truly popular I am. I appreciate all of your opinions… Thank You 🙏🏽 Shana Tova— Tiffany Haddish (@TiffanyHaddish) September 15, 2023
