Aquaman’s 2 Director says Amber Heard will not play a major role in the movie

James Wan, the director of “Aquaman 2,” has recently opened up about the role Amber Heard, and her character Mera, would have in the sequel to the aquatic superhero. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker pointed out that she was never going to play a major role in the motion picture.

These speculations about Amber Heard having a key role in Aquaman 2 came after the public trial between her and her ex-husband Johnny Depp. In spite of the fact that Depp won the case, the controversy surrounded the trial had a knock-on effect on his career, and he lost a number of roles due to the legal dispute with Heard.

Due to this, it is no surprise that fans and Internet users speculated about Amber Heard’s future in the Aquaman franchise. Initially, it was rumored that she would go on to have a leading role in the film, but that it could be cut as a result of the public trial and what this implied for her career as an actress.

Well, it appears to be that the legal controversy with Johnny Depp had nothing to do with her having a less prominent role in Aquaman 2. According to James Wan, the actress was never going to be the focus of the second film, as the movie was set to explore a different direction for Aquaman.

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and [his half-brother] Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”

The statement, however, does not clarify if the participation of Amber Heard will be kept at the bare minimum or if her screen time will be considerable in the movie.
