The MTV VMAs 2023 were a music party with the Kpop genre at the forefront of the show. This is no surprise, as South Korean popular music has gained huge momentum in the last few years thanks to acts such as BTS, BLACKPINK, Twice, Tomorrow x Together and Stray Kids. As a result, the Video Music Awards were filled with Kpop nominations as well as performances!
The show took place yesterday, September 12 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. During the show, Kpop acts were nominated in their signature category “Best Kpop,” and also “Song of the Summer,” “Group of the Year,” “Best Push Performance” and additional professional categories.
Much to the delight of Stray Kids fans, better known as STAY, their group was able to take home the “Best Kpop” for “S-CLASS.” In addition, TXT claimed the ward for “Best Push Performance of the Year” for “Sugar Rush Ride.” Both boybands were present at the ceremony and gave fans and attendees unforgettable performances!
And the #VMA for PUSH Performance of the Year goes to… @TXT_Members 🚀

In addition, Jungkook of BTS was able to win “Song of the Summer” for “Seven,” and BLACKPINK earned the “Group of the Year” and “Best Choreography” awards for “Pink Venom,” which was choreographed by Kiel Tutin, Sienna Lalau, Lee Jung and Taryn Cheng. Unfortunately, none of the Kpop acts previously mentioned attended the ceremony, but they are probably thrilled to receive their awards in the comfort of their homes!
As Kpop grows even bigger, it might be possible to see Kpop acts taking nominations and even win main awards such as “Artist of the Year” or “Album of the Year,” so let us know if you have any predictions about these awards for the future.
