The Barbie movie continues to generate a lot of buzz, even though it has been out for a couple of weeks now. It soon became known that the movie managed to surpass the $1 billion mark, the first movie directed by a woman to do so. Unfortunately, Barbie is banned in another country.
A few days ago there was news that some countries would be censoring or banning the Barbie movie, generating a great controversy about it, but now, it has been announced that another country has joined the list.
Recently, it was made public the news that the African country, Algeria, decided to ban the Mattel doll movie, in its fourth week in theaters around the world. This news was first reported in an Algerian national newscast called 24H Algerie, and today it is making its way around the world.
An anonymous official source told the news site that the banning of Barbie is mainly because it promotes homosexuality and does not comply with Algeria’s religious and cultural beliefs, as it is a conservative country. It seems that this decision was taken by the Ministry of Culture and Arts of the African country, asking them to remove this movie from all theaters in that country, as it harmed the morals of people and their children.
Also the great Barbie movie is facing bans in Lebanon and Kuwait, as these countries also moved their chips to ban this fantasy movie from their theaters, for the same reason that Algeria banned this fantasy comedy, for promoting homosexuality and sexual transformation, and also for contradicting the moral values of the people and the faith of the country, according to the statement.
It is not yet known if at some point the film will reach these countries, but for the moment the decision has been that it will not.
What do you think about this decision?
