Ariana Grande is reportedly in talks to take part on her first ever Disney movie, retaking her acting career after a long period. The ‘God is a woman’ interpreter would be playing Megara in the Live Action adaptation of the 1997 animated classic, Hercules.
The successful singer actually began her career as an actress playing Cat Valentine in the 2010 teen comedy Victorious, produced by Nickelodeon. Her role was a fan favorite and get her a lot of recognition, so she reprised Cat in the 2013 crossover comedy between Victorious and iCarly, titled Sam & Cat. She then released her debut album in 2013 and started focusing on her music career, with brief participations in acting jobs, such as a 4-episode participation in the 2015 comedy Scream Queens.
This would be not the first time that Grande is considered to play the beloved role of Megara, as she actually participated in a 2020 Disney special titled The Disney Family Singalong, where she sang one of Megara’s songs in the original animated movie, ‘I Won’t Say I’m In Love’. The rendition got her a lot of praise on social media, so it did not come as a shock when she was reportedly playing Megara in the film, expected to be released in theaters in 2025.
Hercules tells the story of a man with godlike strength in the ancient Greece, in the plot, he fights with the god Hades in order to reach the god status that he longs for. Megara, who Ariana is reportedly playing, is the co-protagonist. A woman with bad experiences with men, has had he heart broken a few times, but cannot help but fall in love with the protagonist.
Along with the rumored participation in Hercules, Ariana Grande was confirmed to partake in the musical fantasy film Wicked, which sparked a huge controversy after Grande was rumored to be dating one of her co-stars from this production, Ethan Slater, who was married at the time they started their romance. Slater has since then divorced his wife with whom he has a daughter. The public is speculating that he may have divorced in order to be with the ‘Problem’ singer, though no confirmation has been provided.
