After the premiere of the movie ‘Barbie‘, many viewers have praised the incredible work of Ryan Gosling in his role as Ken, that even some movie experts have talked about the possibility of winning an Oscar for ‘best actor’. However, many do not know that at first the interpreter was going to refuse to play this character.
After the actor rejected the offer due to scheduling problems, the pandemic hit and the ‘Barbie’ recordings were postponed. Later, a new invitation was made to Gosling who decided to take some time to think about it when an event occurred that led him to give a resounding yes to this role.
The actor told in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that weeks after receiving the offer, he went out to the backyard of his house, where he found his daughter’s Ken doll, which was lying on the ground, Ryan took this as a sign and decided to accept and tell the sad story of the doll.
“The doll was face down in the mud next to a crushed lemon“, said the actor affected by the situation of his character.
“I will be your Ken, because his story must be told“, he wrote to the production director in a message.
For her part, Margot Robbie, who played Barbie, also wanted Gosling to be her Ken, so she promised to give him a gift every day on set, and she did it!
“I thought there was no way she could keep (the gifts), I mean, it was a long record. But every day was a gift from Barbie for Ken“, the Canadian actor recounted.
