In an interview with Variety magazine, actor Noah Schnapp revealed that he feels immensely grateful for portraying his character on the series ‘Stranger Things’, as it allowed him much more freedom in exploring his sexuality.
The actor, who played Will Byers in the series, came out as gay recently after a long period of rumors about his sexuality. The 18 years old talent had already come out to his family previously, and was encouraged to make the public announcement.
“After I accepted that Will was a homosexual person, accepting myself happened at an exponentially faster pace.” He also added, “I would really be in a completely different place if I hadn’t had Will to portray, embrace, and help me accept myself. I’m sure that if I had never played this character, I would probably still be in the closet“ were his words in the Interview where he came out.
In other words, the actor has acknowledged that thanks to his role in the series, he was finally able to reveal his true sexuality to the public. Noah Schnapp also shared how he told his colleagues about this matter:
“I wanted to tell Millie Bobby Brown personally, but I actually felt nervous about telling her in person, so one day I FaceTimed her at a party and said, ‘Millie, I’m gay.’ She said, ‘Oh, you finally told me!’“
Noah Schnapp’s fans and his closest family have shown their support for him. He mentioned in the same interview that he is “learning about himself every day,” and that he is happy with the current state of his life.
